A stay with meals and everyday activities within reach can reduce the number of trips you need. Before booking, ask the host what you can realistically reach on foot and what requires a vehicle. Choose that base first; an inexpensive room far from your daily plans can create a complicated transportation budget.

Public transportation is concentrated in the metropolitan area. Check the current operator route, service hours, transfer points and walking distance at both ends. A bus operating between two towns is not proof of a practical door-to-door airport connection. Avoid a tight connection that depends on several unconfirmed legs.

Go to your accommodation, store your bags and explore nearby. Save a distant beach or rainforest outing for another day. For a stay in the west or mountains, ask your host about local transportation before committing to a car-free itinerary.
