Book the water crossing first
Choose the destination island and a confirmed sailing with Puerto Rico Ferry. The mainland terminal is in Ceiba, not Fajardo. The operator currently asks passengers to arrive one hour before departure; check its latest instructions with your ticket.
Build a buffer between the flight and ferry
Account for leaving the plane, collecting luggage, meeting the driver, the road journey and terminal check-in. A delayed flight can affect the entire chain. If the connection looks tight, consider a later sailing or a mainland overnight instead of assuming everything will run to the minute.
Arrange the far end
A mainland transfer stops at Ceiba. Contact your island accommodation about transportation after you disembark. Confirm baggage rules and any additional tickets required by the ferry operator; do not assume a mainland rental vehicle can accompany you.
Plan the return before departure day
For the journey back to SJU, allow for the sailing, disembarkation, a mainland pickup and airport procedures. A same-day ferry-to-flight connection needs flexibility. Ask the airline and ferry operator about your options if schedules change.
A direct ride.
A simpler arrival.
Go directly from the airport to your hotel, resort or vacation rental. Private cars and passenger vans for individuals, families and groups.
